Please Don't Hold The Doors

NYC : You cross hundreds of people everyday, in a rush, in rush. In a rush aswell, but you feel like your not moving at all. You leave on time, and sometimes your late. How does that happen.

so what is this thing called urban dance ....

Here's a short poem I wrote that was read in Costa Rica when we presented our African American urban dance project.

Untitled
We danced then to keep our hope alive. We dance now till the sun no longer shines.

Free to dance day and night, without having to put up a fight. It’s in our bones, it’s in our hearts, to groove to the beat of the funk, or dance during the break, where the Bboys and Bgirls start.

It’s comes from within, no class required, or any person saying do it again.

We’re inspired by the beat which makes us move our feet. We’re inspired by the move, to create something new.  Yesterday until today my body knows what to say.

Feel it, do it, and live it.
Urban dance is the natural expression of what we are given.

Kanye West feat Jay-Z Power (remix) - D.Ro gets Inspired!

As Kanye West continues to push his creativity to new places, so does Dafina Roberts who was visually inspired by Kanye’s “Power” video. Dafina, or D.Ro for short, directed and choreographed the dance video short. She took an idea and ran with it! Her vision of having the portrait coming to life through Hip-Hop dance was a success. It was a thrill to be apart of the project and exciting to see the outcome. D.Ro has Co-Founded a production Company- Incredible Soul Movement whose mission it is to mix music, dance, theater and video to revolutionize the way stories are told. She is taking the arts by storm! Watch out!!! =)

Check it out, and share your thoughts.....

100 Beginnings World premiere at DNA

This weekend was full of artistry,I attended a show, as well as performed in one.  The World Premiere of 100 Beginnings was performed at DNA, Choreography done by Nicole Wolcott with Vanessa Walters and Dancers. This piece was about an hr long & kept my attention from beginning to end.The dancers take us into a world, many different situations we experience ourselves today. While moving walls, the performers create awkward moments,  express time being alone as well as moments you feel like a DIVA. Filled with humor and striking choreography, 100 Beginnings can't help but make you crack a smile in the audience.  The dancers were incredible performers especially my good friend Timothy Edwards who stole the show, working it out in 3inch heels. Yes, Stilettos! Performing jaw dropping intricate  and embellishing movements, it was hard to keep your eyes off of him. If you missed it, I'm sure this piece will be showing somewhere else! It is a must see!!! So look out!

If you did see 100 beginnings what did you think?
